In the past 40 years, new mechanical parts have gradually emerged around the world. It consists of inner and outer rings, rolling elements, etc. The slewing bearings produced in my country are mainly introduced by the Tianjin Construction Machinery Research Institute designated by the Ministry of Machinery Industry in the early 1980s.
According to whether the ring has ribs or not, it can be divided into single row cylindrical roller bearings such as NU, NJ, NUP, N, NF, and double row cylindrical roller bearings such as NNU and NN. The bearing is a structure in which the inner ring and the outer ring can be separated.
Double Row Tapered Roller Bearings
Tapered roller bearings refer to radial thrust rolling bearings whose rolling elements are tapered rollers. There are two kinds of small cone angle and large cone angle.
Sliding bearings have neither inner and outer rings nor rolling elements, and are generally made of wear-resistant materials. Commonly used in low speed, light load and mechanical rotating parts that are difficult to lubricate and maintain.
According to the force, it is divided into one-way thrust ball bearings and two-way thrust ball bearings. One-way thrust ball bearing can bear one-way axial load. Two-way thrust ball bearing can bear two-way axial load, in which the shaft ring is matched with the shaft.
Thrust Spherical Roller Bearings
Thrust ball bearing composition: Thrust ball bearing consists of three parts: seat washer, shaft washer and steel ball cage assembly. The shaft washer matched with the shaft and the seat ring matched with the housing.

The Difference Between Thrust Spherical Roller Bearings and Other Bearings
Bearing, as an important part of mechanical transmission system, mainly plays an important role in supporting rotating parts and reducing friction loss. Among various types of bearings, thrust spherical roller bearing is a kind of bearing with special structure and performance, which is different from other types of bearings.
First of all, from the bearing type point of view, the thrust spherical roller bearing is a kind of rolling bearing, which has the advantages of large carrying capacity and low friction resistance. Compared with sliding bearings, it performs better in high-speed operation and can adapt to high-speed and high-load application scenarios.
In terms of load capacity, the performance of thrust spherical roller bearings is also very good. Its rollers are evenly distributed inside the bearing and can effectively withstand loads from all directions. Compared with other types of bearings, it has more outstanding performance in terms of load capacity and anti-limit speed. For example, in heavy-duty applications, thrust spherical roller bearings can better maintain rotation accuracy and improve the operating efficiency of the equipment.
From the structural design point of view, the thrust spherical roller bearing has a unique advantage. Due to its internal structure with a self-aligning design, the bearing can automatically adjust when subjected to tilt or deflection force to maintain a stable operating state. This feature makes the thrust spherical roller bearings have higher adaptability and stability in various harsh working environments.
In terms of use and maintenance, thrust spherical roller bearings require special attention. Due to its special structure and performance, users need to choose the right type of bearing, and according to the requirements of the correct installation and maintenance. During operation, the wear of the bearing should be checked regularly, and the replacement and maintenance should be carried out in time to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.
In general, thrust spherical roller bearings, as a special rolling bearing, are significantly different from other types of bearings in terms of their structure, load-bearing capacity, and high-speed stability. When selecting and using thrust spherical roller bearings, it is necessary to make reasonable selection and configuration according to the actual application scenarios and requirements to ensure its best performance and effect.
With the continuous development of science and technology, bearing technology is also in continuous innovation and upgrading. In the future, thrust spherical roller bearings will be more widely used in higher speed and greater load-bearing applications. At the same time, the development of new materials and the improvement of manufacturing process will further improve the performance and life of thrust spherical roller bearings. Let us look forward to bearing technology for mechanical equipment to bring better performance and more efficient operation experience.
Thrust Spherical Roller Bearings and Performance
The outer ring of the spherical roller thrust bearings and the housing of the bearing housing should not adopt an interference fit, and the inner ring and the journal should not be too tight. When adjusting the nut, it should be able to produce more flexible axial displacement.
If the spherical roller thrust bearing adopts an interference fit, the contact angle of the bearing is likely to change, resulting in uneven bearing load distribution and high-temperature rise. Therefore, the installation and coordination of the inner and outer rings of this type of bearing with the journal and bearing housing hole should generally be best with the thumbs of both hands that can push the bearing into the journal and housing hole.
For the axial installation clearance of the spherical roller bearing, it can be adjusted by adjusting nut on the journal, adjusting washer and the thread in the bearing seat hole, or by pre-tensioning the spring and so on. The dimension of the axial clearance is related to the arrangement of the bearing, the space between the bearings, and the materials of the shaft and the bearing seat, which can be determined according to the working conditions.
For high-load and high-speed spherical roller thrust bearings, when adjusting the clearance, the effect of temperature rising on the axial clearance must be considered, and the amount of clearance reduction caused by temperature rise must be taken into account, that is, the axial travel gap should be adjusted appropriately to be larger.
For bearings with low rotation speed and vibration, install without clearance or install with preload. The purpose is to make the roller and the raceway of spherical roller thrust bearing have good contacting, and the load is evenly distributed to prevent the roller and the raceway from being damaged by vibration and shock. After adjustment, the amount of axial clearance is checked with a dial indicator. The method is to firstly fix the dial indicator on the fuselage or the bearing seat, make the dial indicator contact the smooth surface of the shaft, and push the shaft left and right along the axial direction.
Thrust Spherical Roller Bearing Installation
When using thrust spherical roller bearings, attention must be paid to the installation and maintenance of the bearings to ensure the normal operation of the bearings. In addition, it is necessary to select the appropriate bearing model and specifications according to the actual situation to ensure that it can withstand the expected load and service life. Because thrust roller bearings are high-precision products, improper assembly can easily damage the thrust roller bearing grooves, resulting in damage to the thrust roller bearings. Thrust roller bearings should have a special mold when assembled and should not be knocked at will.
Fit
The outer ring of the spherical roller bearing should not be fitted with an interference fit with the housing hole of the bearing seat. The fit between the inner ring and the shaft neck should not be too tight, and it is required that the nut should be adjusted during installation to produce a flexible axial displacement. Because if the spherical roller bearing adopts an interference fit, it is easy to change the contact angle of the bearing, resulting in uneven distribution of the bearing load and high temperature rise. Therefore, the installation fit of the inner and outer rings of this type of bearing with the shaft neck and the housing hole of the bearing seat should generally be such that the thumbs of both hands can just push the bearing into the shaft neck and the housing hole.
Clearance
For the installation axial clearance of the spherical roller bearing, it can be adjusted by using the adjusting nut on the shaft neck, adjusting gasket and the thread in the bearing seat hole, or by using a preload spring. The size of the axial clearance is related to the arrangement of the bearing during installation, the distance between the bearings, and the materials of the shaft and the bearing seat, and can be determined according to the working conditions. For high-load and high-speed spherical roller bearings, when adjusting the clearance, the effect of temperature rise on the axial clearance must be considered, and the clearance reduction caused by temperature rise must be estimated. In other words, the axial clearance should be appropriately adjusted to be larger.
For low-speed and vibration-bearing bearings, clearance-free installation or preload installation should be adopted. The purpose is to make the rollers and raceways of the spherical roller bearings have good contact, evenly distribute the load, and prevent the rollers and raceways from being damaged by vibration impact. After adjustment, the size of the axial clearance is checked with a micrometer. The method is to first fix the micrometer on the machine body or the bearing seat, so that the micrometer contact is against the smooth surface of the shaft, and the shaft is pushed left and right along the axial direction. The maximum swing of the needle is the axial clearance value.
Foreign matter
When the thrust roller bearing is installed on the rotor for dynamic balancing, it is easy for the iron filings generated during dynamic balancing to enter the thrust roller bearing. Therefore, it is best to do dynamic balancing before installing the thrust roller bearing. In order to facilitate assembly, some manufacturers apply some oil or grease to the thrust roller bearing chamber for lubrication during assembly, but it is often difficult for operators to control the amount. If there is a lot of oil or grease accumulated in the thrust roller bearing chamber, it is easy to enter the thrust roller bearing along the shaft when the thrust roller bearing rotates. It is best not to apply oil or grease to the thrust roller bearing chamber. If it is necessary to apply it, it must be controlled not to have accumulation in the thrust roller bearing chamber.
Prevention of paint rust
The characteristic of paint rust is that it often occurs in sealed motors. The motor sounds very good during assembly, but after being stored in the warehouse for some time, the abnormal noise of the motor becomes very loud, and the thrust roller bearing is seriously rusted after being removed. In the past, many manufacturers would think that it was a problem with the thrust roller bearing. After continuous publicity by bearing manufacturers, motor factories have realized that it is mainly a problem with insulating paint. This problem is mainly caused by the acidic substances volatilized from the insulating paint forming corrosive substances under certain temperature and humidity, which corrode the groove of the thrust roller bearing and cause the thrust roller bearing to be damaged. The only solution to this problem is to use good insulating paint and assemble it after drying and ventilation for a period of time.
Components and Design of Thrust Spherical Roller Bearings

Key Components
Understanding the components of thrust spherical roller bearings is essential for grasping how they work. The key components include:
Inner Ring: The inner ring fits onto the shaft and usually has a groove where the rollers sit.
Outer Ring: The outer ring is stationary and is mounted in the housing. It also features a groove for roller alignment.
Spherical Rollers: These rollers are designed to roll between the inner and outer rings, allowing for axial load support and compensating for misalignment.
Cage: The cage holds the spherical rollers in place, ensuring they maintain proper spacing and alignment.
Design Features
The design of thrust spherical roller bearings incorporates several features aimed at improving performance and longevity:
Self-Aligning Capability: The spherical shape of the rollers and rings allows the bearing to adapt to misalignment, which is crucial in applications where shaft deflections occur.
High Load Capacity: These bearings can handle large axial loads due to their robust construction and the number of rollers they can accommodate.
Durable Materials: Made from high-quality steel, thrust spherical roller bearings are built to resist wear and fatigue, ensuring long service life.

Thrust Roller Bearing Types
Thrust spherical roller bearings are used to bear the combined axial and radial load, but the radial load shall not exceed 55% of the axial load. Compared with other thrust bearings, this kind of bearing has lower frictional factor, higher speed, and has self-aligning performance.
Thrust bearings are divided into thrust ball bearings and thrust roller bearings. Thrust ball bearings are divided into single direction thrust ball bearings, double direction thrust ball bearing and angular contact thrust ball bearings. Thrust roller bearings are divided into cylindrical roller thrust bearings, spherical roller thrust bearings, tapered roller thrust bearings and needle roller thrust bearings.
Cylindrical roller thrust bearings and tapered roller thrust bearings are suitable for low speed occasions. The speed of tapered roller thrust bearings is slightly higher than that of cylindrical roller thrust bearings. Cylindrical roller thrust bearings are separable bearings, which can only bear one-way axial load and slight impact, and can limit the axial displacement of the shaft (or housing) in one direction, so it can be used for one-way axial positioning. But its carrying capacity is far greater than that of thrust ball bearings. When the rollers are rolling, due to the different linear speeds at the two ends of the roller, the roller will inevitably slide on the raceway of the ring. Therefore, the limit speed of this type of bearing is lower than that of the thrust ball bearing, and it is usually only suitable for low-speed operation.
The standard design of cylindrical roller thrust bearing adopts a machined metalic solid cage. According to user requirements, different types of cages or materials can also be used. Tapered roller thrust bearings can only bear one-way axial load and can limit the one-way axial displacement of the bearing, so it can be used for one-way axial positioning. Compared with cylindrical roller thrust bearings, the bearing capacity is large, the relative sliding is small, but the limit speed is higher.
